Spices from the Indian kitchens have always been integral of our diet. Most common spices that we use are haldi (turmeric) powder, lal mirch (cayenne pepper), Jeera (cumin seeds) powder. All the spices are great immunity boosters. They are densely packed with essential oils, antioxidants and needless to say, rich aromas.

One such spice on the table today, is Cinnamon powder. It is a spice that is made from the bark of trees scientifically known as Cinnamomum. The spice is extracted from the inner bark of the tree. The oily stalk is loaded with a compound called cinnamaldehyde.

Cinnamon has following benefits:

  1. Antioxidants protect your body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Cinnamon has powerful antioxidant called polyphenols which helps your body-cells stay young and healthy.
  2. Helps to curb insulin resistance: Insulin is the most important hormone for body metabolism and energy levels. It’s essentially a nutrient carrier of our blood-stream. Due to modern unhealthy eating patterns, many people fall prey to insulin resistance, which means, the insulin in your body is unable to carry the daily required nutrients to different parts of your body, causing you to feel lethargic and unenergetic. But the better news is, consuming cinnamon helps insulin do its job correctly. It reduces blood-sugar levels, helps your entire body experience the optimal states of energy.
  3. It has anti-inflammatory properties which can soothe the gut and all the integral organs and fight against foreign infections and bacterias

But how should I consume Cinnamon powder on a daily basis?

Cinnamon is non-soluble in water, if you add a pinch of cinnamon to a glass of water, it is most likely going deposit on the sides of the glass. The ideal way to consume is by making a cinnamon concoction. This can be easily done by boiling water and cinnamon together.

Pro-tip: If you are a busy mother, who can barely find time to touch her nose, you can make cinnamon lollies once a week. All you have to do is freeze the cinnamon concoction just like the ice-cubes in our refrigerators and add 2-3 cinnamon lollies to a glass of water everyday. It’s best to consume cinnamon 25-20 minutes before meals.
